On October 29, 2012, Superstorm Sandy came ashore causing extensive flood damage to this luxury home located on Lido Beach, New York. After waiting nearly 5 weeks for a flood adjuster to simply call and schedule an appointment, the property owner’s realized they could not wait any longer and decided to hire the professional services of Tutwiler and Associates Public Insurance Adjusters to help them document the loss and damages. This large estate located in Babylon, New York sustained flood damage as a result of the rising waters caused by Sandy. However the severe damage was mainly limited to the crawlspace. This presented a major challenge, especially as it related to the scope and method of repair due to the way this structure was built. Additionally, the flood insurance adjuster sent out by the insurance carrier felt that no water entered into the first level of the home, which upon proper inspection by our team, was simply not accurate.

On November 11, 2011 Ocean Palms suffered a stoppage in the building’s plumbing system that resulted in multiple floor and units being damaged. Tornadoes wreaked havoc through the Tampa Bay area on March 31, 2011. Among those affected was a prominent St. Petersburg shopping center that had a portion of its roof torn off creating leaks throughout the building. A large retailer who was the anchor store, as well as three other businesses suffered damage. The property owner promptly reported the claim to his property insurance carrier located in Jacksonville, Florida. In turn the carrier sent out a local independent adjuster who wrote an estimate to repair the northwest corner of the roof plus some interior damage. In this instance the building owner had a large windstorm deductible and the local independent adjuster’s estimate came in at a lower amount than the deductible. While the property carrier acknowledged coverage, they sent a courtesy letter to the owner stating that no payments could be made because it was under the windstorm deductible. Meanwhile, the owner called in a general contractor whose initial estimate was far in excess of the deductible.
